Namiki's Nippon Art Collection features designs deeply connected to Japanese culture, showcasing themes like traditional toys, dragons, flower baskets, and origami. These pens are adorned with timeless symbols and are crafted using the Hira Maki-e technique. This process involves creating intricate patterns with colored Urushi and raw lacquer, which are then dusted with silver and gold powder. After drying, multiple layers of Urushi are applied, and once hardened, the pen is meticulously polished to achieve a deep, lustrous shine.
The Namiki Nippon Art Chinese Phoenix fountain pen honors the revered Feng Huang, a bird symbolizing virtue, grace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. Unlike the Western phoenix, the Chinese phoenix is not reborn from its ashes but represents the union of opposites—yin and yang, male and female. It is associated with the light of the sun and moon and is considered the bird of the southern sky. Its song is believed to have inspired the five cardinal notes of Chinese melody and is one of the four mythical creatures said to have created the world.
Each pen in this collection is completed with an exquisite No. 10 14k gold nib, engraved with the image of Mount Fuji, and is available in Fine and Medium sizes.
