LOVE this ink!

Had to stock up before its retirement and Truphae really delivered! It's such a unique shade of grey that behaves well in all my pens.

Nothing bland or basic about this grey

USE: longform writing

PAPER OF CHOICE: Tūl, Leuchtturm 1917 80gsm

NIB(S): F, Diplomat, Montblanc

THOUGHTS: Where do I begin with this ink? It will make you rethink grey, that is for sure. Blots/drops of the ink reveal a beautiful chromatography, with puce and light cerulean undertones. These are the foundation for its shading properties, which are subtle but consistent. Though a light grey, the ink is not as faint as you might expect.

On the page, the ink has a quality that is difficult to describe--probably a kinship it shares with other Iroshizuku colors. In wetter nibs (Montblanc) on fountain pen friendly papers, the ink spreads and gives the writing a vintage quality. Each letter is slightly darker at the edge, faded towards the center, and has a blurriness that is striking and actually pleasant to read. On more fibrous paper with a drier nib, the ink provides a good, crisp line that is still clear.

Being on the wetter side, it is a little more prone to feather than other inks, so keep blotting paper nearby if you pause more often in your writing.

It is decently water-resistant. After a water bath, the writing lightens somewhat and the red color bleeds, leaving a pinkish shadow. Anything written, however, is more than legible, if not slightly bluer in tone.
