This vintage-inspired Tibaldi Bononia fountain pen features a striated turquoise blue resin body and cap and palladium-plated trim. Three trim rings adorn the tapered screw-cap, which pushes to post. The pen fills via the included standard international converter or short standard international cartridges. It comes with a #6 size steel nib made in Italy and an ebonite feed.
Authentically Italian, this brand is heart-beating since 1916. Originated in Florence by Giuseppe Tibaldi - a man with a singular passion for making pens. Today's collections of pens form a powerful shortlist of iconic pieces from the archives, blending streetstyle trends with fashion metrics.
I have several Italian fountain pens by now (Omas, Stipula, several from Leonardo), but this is my first Tibaldi. In all honesty, I bought this simply for the color, and on that level it doesn't disappoint at all. This is very similar in style to the Leonardo Furore (or the larger version of it, the Furore Grande). Tibaldi would benefit from rounding the bottom of the cap inward toward the body the way Leonardo does on the Furore Grande (it looks much more refined and elegant), and I did notice the threads for the cap and body do feel rough and slightly jerky in comparison to Leonardo's pens (but for the love of the color I can remedy that with a little silicone grease). It's a keeper for the chatoyance and the beautiful color alone. Would I buy another Tibaldi just based on the pen itself? Maybe not. This pen makes me wonder what Tibaldi will do if they take customer feedback and revise this to a Mark II version of the design that has a little more heft, fixes those roughish threads, and so on. For the beautiful material itself it's a VERY good start. Other details like the simplicity of the clip don't say "luxury writing instrument" to me, however there's nothing wrong with shooting for a minimalist vibe (as long as your prospective customers agree while paying somewhat luxury prices [compared to the throwaway pens most come from]). This is a pen that will definitely capture your eye and have you turning it over and over under a light to admire its beauty, and while I haven't written with it yet, the section does feel nice in the hand for writing.
