Hans Christian Andersen Limited Edition Collection
The Hans Christian Andersen Collection celebrates the timeless fairy tales of the beloved Danish author. Andersen’s 156 stories, including classics like The Emperor's New Clothes, The Little Mermaid, The Snow Queen, and The Ugly Duckling, have touched millions around the world, inspiring ballets, plays, and films.
Born in Odense, Denmark, Andersen endured challenging years in grammar school, experiences that deeply impacted him. Despite these hardships, he created stories that convey themes of self-realization, resilience, and the triumph of inner beauty over outward appearances. One of his most cherished tales, The Ugly Duckling, tells the story of a humble bird's journey to discovering his true identity as a majestic swan. This universal message speaks to all who have ever felt out of place or undervalued and celebrates the divine potential within each soul.
As the 38th addition to the David Oscarson™ series, the Hans Christian Andersen Limited Edition Collection continues in the tradition of fine craftsmanship, blending Guilloché and Hard Enamel techniques to create a tribute worthy of Andersen’s legacy. Each pen is handcrafted in sterling silver, with layers of meticulously applied enamel and intricate engraving. Beginning at the base of the barrel, an egg and shell fragments are engraved in white or opalescent enamel. Above them, three ducklings and footprints appear, symbolizing the duckyard. The cygnet (baby swan) is also engraved, positioned in a higher relief to represent the beauty within.
The upper portion of the pen showcases the graceful swan in high relief, a reflection of the self-realization found at the story’s end. The pen clip features a cracking egg, while Andersen's signature crowns the top.
Produced in five color variations, each limited to 70 pieces (one for each year of Andersen’s life), this collection honors his profound understanding of themes like courage, endurance, and self-illumination, carrying forward his legacy of empathy and insight.
