Take it to the Limit (TITTL) Limited Edition Collection
The 36th release in the David Oscarson™ series of Limited Edition writing instruments, Take it to the Limit is a celebration of the thrill of driving and love for the open road. Crafted in solid sterling silver, this collection captures iconic automotive details and will appeal to those with a passion for classic cars and speed. Produced in six primary color variations, each colorway is limited to 100 pieces, inclusive of both fountain pens and roller balls.
TITTL speaks to the essence of speed. While alternative names such as Need for Speed and Pedal to the Metal were considered, TITTL stands as a homage to enthusiasts of gas-powered roadsters, capturing the final era of these iconic vehicles. Embracing this sentiment, the pen’s crown is adorned with a high-relief gear shift image, while the clip is styled as an elongated piston. The guilloché dials on the cap feature intricate displays of a speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge, engine temperature, and fuel gauge, highlighting its car-inspired elements.
Continuing the design language of collections like the Koi and Sea Turtle, the TITTL Collection showcases a Carbon Fiber Guilloché pattern beneath layers of vibrant Hot Enamel. Each pen is finished with racing stripes along the barrel and a Number “1” symbol, while the gripping section is engraved with the statement, “If everything seems under control, you’re just not going fast enough.”
Craftsmanship & Hard Enamel
This collection exemplifies Old World craftsmanship by combining guilloché engraving with the skill-intensive art of Hard Enamel. The enamel process begins by grinding glass, water, and metal oxides into a fine paste, applied by hand to the metal surface with a quill. Each coat of enamel is fired in a furnace at over 1,000°F, bonding the glass to the metal. Multiple firings are required to achieve each color and translucent finish, often demanding up to 15-20 firings per piece. Each stage includes meticulous filing, re-application, and re-firing to perfect the enamel’s depth and translucency.
Only experienced artisans with a minimum five-year apprenticeship undertake the enamel work, ensuring that each TITTL piece meets the highest standards of quality and artistry.
