The TWSBI Vac700R Iris comes with a vacuum filler mechanism. This fountain pen features a clear demonstrator body with rainbow-colored, iridescent trim and a stainless steel nib.
The Vac700 has been updated to now be called the Vac700R. TWSBI made small updates to the internal of the pen valving. The old Vac700 used to have 2 small valves. Now, it has only 1 large valve. The bottom of the grip/feeder section has also been enlarged and tapered more drastically. They found by doing these two adjustments, the flow of the pen when the end cap is open increased a small percentage. This is the same design they incorporated in the Vac Mini series.
Due to the bottom of the grip/feeder section being enlarged and tapered differently, the individual nib sets from the original Vac700 pen will NOT work on the Vac700R. Only the Vac700R nib sets will go along with the Vac700R fountain pen.
TWSBI's belief is that it is important to allow the user to disassemble and reassemble the pen and completely experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. These pens also come packaged with a wrench and silicone grease. Neither of these accessories are intended to be used immediately, as they are for long-term care and maintenance. Additionally, please use extra care if you choose to disassemble the nib and feed, as the feed is very fragile.
If you're taking apart this pen, note that the mechanism on the Vac700R removes out of the pen in a counter-clockwise direction. This is the opposite direction from other TWSBI pens like the 580.
This beautiful pen is more than I could have hoped for. I waited too late to get any of the 1.1 stub offerings and I definitely regret that. If any other special versions of the Vac 700 come out, I will not be making the same mistake. It is heavier than the ECOs and 580s, but comfortably balanced in my hand. That big nib has generous ink flow from the feed underneath. I don't think I have seen a feed fill up quite like this one. Keep your fingers back on the section to avoid a mess. I highly recommend this smooth writing vacuum filler!
I have numerous TWSBI and they are all great! I assumed this one would be as well. I filled in with Otto Hutt ink and it wrote well for about two paragraphs and then the nib went dry. I cleaned the pen with water and pen cleaner and filled it with Waterman ink. It wrote four pages and the nib went dry. In each case there was plenty of ink in the pen. I bought a medium nib as I usually do with TWSBI. I don't know if there is a problem with the nib or what. All I know is it is a terrible disappointment to me.
I got this specifically for the broad nib and huge reservoir of ink it holds. It really lays down the sheen inks I planed to use it with.
One of the best looking pens in my modest collection and the filling mechanism is great fun. Love watching the ink slosh and writing with the pretty nib just brightens my day. Truphae shipped my pen quickly and it arrived in excellent condition. Thank you!
The TWSBI Mac700R Iris Fountain Pen is amazing and well worth the money! I really like everything about it, this is now my go-to everyday fountain pen and I'm going to purchase another one today.
